Don’t have to eat low carb or low fat to lose weight. On their plan you can eat your regular everyday foods and still achieve success so long as you account for the calories.

The basic concept is to continue eating the same foods as usual, but to become aware of serving sizes. The authors claim that this will increase your success of sticking with the plan because you will be able to eat the foods you actually enjoy.

A great emphasis is placed on overcoming the diet mentality and just concentrating on what you will be eating today. There is no need to worry that you are missing out on foods like bread, chocolate or pizza because on the 100 calorie diet you can have these foods every day if you like.

Deprivation is damaging on a psychological level, the authors state, and it also slows down the metabolism, but they also warn dieters not to let their ‘fat monster’ trick them into binging on unhealthy foods and sabotaging weight loss.

Women are permitted a calorie intake of 1500 and men 2000 calories daily. Dieters are advised to spend their calories wisely, to only eat high quality foods and not to waste calories on foods that don’t taste good.

Dieters are encouraged to select a well balanced diet. Whenever feeling hungry ‘free foods’ are permitted in unlimited amounts. These foods can also be added to meals if desired.

‘Free foods’ include: bell pepper, broccoli, butternut squash, cabbage, carrots, cucumber, green beans, lettuce, mushrooms, snow peas, tomato, zucchini, alfalfa sprouts, balsamic vinegar, bouillon, capers, carob, cocoa, pickles, hot sauce, salsa, diet soda, soy sauce, splenda and V8 juice.

Exercise is a dieter’s best friend! It not only burns calories, but can actually improve your resting metabolism. No time for a long workout? Research shows that three 10-minute spurts of exercise per day are just as good as one 30-minute workout. Take the stairs instead of the elevator or park in the back of the parking lot. See the exercise :

Get proper sleep – Get proper sleep. People with improper sleep have a much higher risk of obesity. Exhaustion can make you feel hungrier, and impair your judgment. Aim for around 8 hours of good sleep a night. See Tips for a Good Night’s Sleep.

Turn off the TV – You actually burn less calories watching television than you do sleeping! If you simply can’t miss your favorite shows, get a little workout in while watching – do easy exercises like squats, sit-ups, jogging in place, or using resistance bands or hand weights

Cook your own meals – Cooking meals at home allows you to control both portion size and what goes in to the food. Restaurant and packaged foods generally contain a lot more sodium, fat, and calories than food cooked at home, plus the portions sizes tend to be larger.

Make sure to shop when you are not hungry. Create a shopping list to stick to, and store tempting foods in cabinets or drawers out of your sight.

Eat early, eat often. Starting your day with a healthy breakfast can jumpstart your metabolism. And will help to keep you from binging later in the day. Likewise, “grazing” on healthful snacks like fruits, veggies and protein-packed almonds, and eating 6 small, healthful meals throughout the day, rather than the standard 3 large

Good Luck, and common sharing together with our diet.

Fruits and vegetables are low in calories and are packed with vitamins, minerals, protective plant compounds and fiber. They are a great source of nutrients and vital for a healthy diet.

Fruits and vegetables should be part of every meal, and be your first choice for a snack. Eat a minimum of five portions each day. The antioxidants and other nutrients in these foods help protect against developing certain types of cancer and other diseases.

Greens: Dark leafy green vegetables are a vital part of a healthy diet since they are packed with nutrients such as calcium, magnesium, iron, potassium, zinc, and Vitamins A, C, E and K. Greens help to strengthen the blood and respiratory systems. They are currently the most lacking food in the American diet. Be adventurous in your choice of greens: kale, mustard greens, broccoli, Chinese cabbage are just a few of the many options.

Sweet Vegetables: Naturally sweet vegetables are an excellent way to add healthy sweetness to your meals and reduce your cravings for other sweets. Some examples of sweet vegetables are corn, carrots, beets, sweet potatoes or yams, winter squash, and onions.

Fruit:

Eating a wide variety of fruit is another very healthy part of any diet. They provide us with beneficial properties such as natural sugars, fiber, Vitamins and antioxidants.

We live in a fast paced world where eating has become secondary. Counter this by paying attention to what you eat, savoring each bite, and choosing foods that are both nourishing and enjoyable. This also helps you achieve healthy weight loss and maintenance. Plus, when our minds are tuned out during mealtime, the digestive process may be 30% to 40% less effective. This can contribute to digestive distress, such as gas, bloating and bowel irregularities

Pay attention while you are eating. Be aware of your environment, eat slowly, enjoy each bite – savor the smells and textures of your food. If your mind wanders, just gently remind yourself to return to focusing on your food and how it tastes and feels in your mouth.

Avoid distractions while eating. Try not to eat while working, watching TV, reading, using a computer, or driving.

Try mixing things up to force yourself to focus on the experience of eating – try using chopsticks rather than a fork, or use your utensils with your non-dominant hand.

Chew your food thoroughly. Try chewing each bite 30 times before swallowing.

Stop eating before you are full. Avoid the temptation to “clean your plate”. Yes, there are children starving in Africa, but you packing on the pounds won’t help them.

Serve yourself a smaller portion and use small plates, bowls and cups. This will make your portions appear larger. If possible leave the table as soon as you are done. The longer you sit at the table, the more you will eat. If you are hungry later you can have a small healthy snack.

Plan your meals and snacks ahead of time and don’t eat out of large bags or boxes. You will be more inclined to eat in moderation if you have thought out healthy meals and snacks in advance. You can buy or create your own small portion snacks in plastic bags or containers. Remember to only eat when you are truly hungry.

Good Luck !!

You have been bombarded with nutrition information for years. In fact, like so many other people you probably tune it out at this point. What people talking about nutrition forget to remind you is that how you feel is a direct result of how you eat.

Are you tired? Are you irritable? Do you have trouble concentrating? All these could be the result of poor nutrition. If you want to feel as good as you can and have endless energy then you have to eat right. Here are basic guidelines.

Fresh Fruits And Vegetables

Fresh fruits and vegetables have all kinds of vitamins, antioxidants, and good things in them. They are as essential to your health as getting enough sleep at night. If you don’t get them then you can’t expect to feel so good. The good thing is you can start eating them today and start feeling better as early as tomorrow. You can also go the frozen route if fresh is too intimidating for you. You just want to avoid canned because they lose some of their health benefits in this form.

Avoid Processed Foods

People eat a lot of processed foods because they’re convenient, but you want to eat natural foods as often as possible. Processed foods aren’t good for you. You already know this. Now you just need to keep them to a minimum. Variety Is The Spice Of Life Variety is also a key to a healthy diet. Once you get settled into eating healthy foods, you want to eat a variety of these foods. Some are higher in certain vitamins and minerals than others so eating a wide selection of foods helps to ensure that you will get everything your body needs to function at its best.

Eat Regular Meals

It’s easy to get sucked into your work and to forget to eat for long periods of time when you’re working with a computer. You want to avoid this. Your body needs regular high quality fuel. You should be taking breaks regularly anyway to break up your focus on your computer. Regular meals should be a part of this.

Match Your Eating To Your Activity Level

You want to match your eating to your activity level. It is too easy to absentmindedly eat while you stare at the screen and to eat more than you need to. If you spend most of your day sitting at your computer then you will not need to eat as much as someone who is physically active all day long. This is not to say that you shouldn’t eat if you don’t move around much. Your body needs fuel just to maintain its tissues so you have to eat enough. Just pay attention to your hunger and use that as your guide. Of course, you want to be scheduling regular exercise into your days.

This nutrition guide for web workers is not supposed to be a list of restrictive rules but rather a set of guidelines. Healthy eating allows you to be alert and energetic enough to create your best designs. These tips will help you achieve your best.

In 1991, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the Produce for Better Health Foundation launched a campaign to increase consumption of fruits and vegetables to 5 to 9 servings a day for every American. “There is no specific fruit or vegetable responsible for reducing cancer risk,” says the 5 A Day for Better Health Program website. “Research shows that it is the regular consumption of a variety of fruits and vegetables that reduces risk.” Five servings is considered the minimum. For men, the recommendation is nine servings per day; for women, it is seven.

To help people gauge their intake, the 5 A Day website defines a serving size as the amount of fruit or vegetable that can fit in the palm of your hand. The following portions are examples of single serving sizes:

A small (3/4 cup or 6 oz) glass of 100% fruit or vegetable juice

A medium-size piece of fruit (an orange, small banana, medium-size apple)

One cup of raw salad greens

1/2 cup of cooked vegetables

1/2 cup of cut-up fruit or vegetables

1/4 cup of dried fruit

1/2 cup of cooked beans or peas

Although the portions sizes are simple to understand, fitting them into a busy lifestyle is another matter. The Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation and the 5 A Day program offer the following tips for meeting 7–9 fruit and vegetable servings per day:

Have a glass of 100% juice in the morning. Add fruit to your breakfast cereal.

Snack on fresh fruit throughout the day. Grab an apple or banana on your way out the door.

Eat a big salad at lunch. Always order lettuce and tomato on your sandwich.

Snack on raw veggies with low-fat dip instead of chips or candy.

Keep trail mix made with dried fruit on hand for a quick snack.

Use the salad bar at your supermarket for precut fruits and vegetables.

Enjoy your favorite beans and peas. Add them to salads. Try black bean and corn salsa for snacking.

Replace creamy pasta sauces, with sautéed vegetables or tomato sauce made with healthy olive oil.

Top a baked potato with broccoli and yogurt.

Add fresh or frozen veggies to your favorite pasta sauce or rice dish.

Eat at least two vegetables with dinner.

Choose fruit instead of a richer dessert.

African Americans are at a higher risk for cancer and other diseases as compared to whites, and are also more likely to die from cancer. At the same time, African Americans consume the least amount of fruits and vegetables of any ethnic group. To help address the disparity in consumption rates, the 5 A Day initiative developed a wellness program for African American churches called Body and Soul. For the past ten years, this program has helped support healthy living, including increased fruit and vegetable consumption. Visit the 5 A Day website for more information or to start a Body and Soul program at your own church.

A final word about variety. Pay attention to the colors of the fruits and vegetables you choose—green, red, yellow, orange, purple, blue, and white—as nature has imbued each with unique nutrients and phytochemicals that deliver a more complete nutritional benefit when consumed together. Think of assembling a rainbow of colors on your plate; it’s more pleasing to the eye and will give you a good balance of phytonutrients at each meal.
